How Co-Op Works

A major game-changing addition has arrived with Slay the Spire 2. For the first time, players can team up and combine their strengths to tackle the Spire together. Party size supports up to 4 players. During Early Access, co-op requires friends list only — no matchmaking is available.

Key Mechanics

MechanicDescription
Enemy HealthScaled to party size
Boss MechanicsEnhanced defenses (e.g., Vantom requires double attacks to break Slippery)
Damage DistributionEnemies hit ALL players with each attack
Simultaneous TurnsAll players act at the same time — coordination is critical

Turn Coordination

Since everyone plays simultaneously, communication is essential.

Coordination tips

  • Wait for your ally to apply Vulnerable before playing your big attacks
  • Coordinate Block timing against multi-hit enemy attacks
  • Plan Energy usage to avoid wasting buffs

Rest Sites in Co-Op

Your rest site gains a new option: Mend. This allows you to heal another player instead of yourself.

Strategic uses of Mend

  • Bringing an ally back from the brink of death
  • Allowing a teammate to take the Upgrade option instead of healing themselves

Relic Distribution

During chest events, your party is offered Relics equal to the number of players present. Each player chooses which Relic they want. If multiple players want the same Relic, a Rock Paper Scissors mini-game decides the winner — the winner takes the chosen Relic, and the loser receives a different Relic at random.

Shared Resources

Some Potions (Block Potion, Energy Potion) can be played on yourself OR a party member, making your potion pool somewhat party-wide. At any time you can inspect your allies' Relics, Potions, and Deck List. Note: you cannot view their current hand during combat. The top-left corner shows each ally's Health, Cards in hand, and Energy — use this to coordinate plays!

These cards only appear in multiplayer runs and offer unique party-wide benefits.

Co-Op Strategies

Multiplayer changes the strategic landscape significantly.

Debuff Coordination

Debuffs like Weak and Vulnerable need only be applied by one player but benefit the entire party. This dramatically increases their value. Consider having at least one party member focus on a support role — something rarely viable in solo play.

Self-Defense is Still Critical

While you can lean on teammates for offense, you're still responsible for your own protection. Having solid Block options remains essential. You can't rely on allies to save you from every attack.

Relic Synergies

Miniature Tent becomes incredible in Co-Op due to the Mend option. Your ally can be brought back from near-death with a double heal, or get a critical Upgrade because they didn't need to Rest.
